A brief overview
There are some nutrients that are particularly important to supplement due to insufficient intake through the normal diet or due to other factors.
Far in the forefront are:
Omega-3 fatty acids
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) (1000 mg per daily ration)
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (500 mg per daily ration)
Vitamin D3 (50 µg)
Vitamin K2 (100 µg)
To help you meet your daily needs for the micronutrients vitamin D3, K2, and the omega-3 polyunsaturated fats EPA and DHA, we at More provide just these nutrients in high-quality form and coordinated dosages with our Essentials 03-D3-K2 product.
Important: Food supplements are only ever a supplement to a balanced and healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Ingredients & Effects: What are the effects of Essentials O3-D3-K2 capsules?
Even with a conscious and balanced diet, it is not always possible to optimally cover the need for important nutrients. The supply sometimes depends on external circumstances, as in the case of vitamin D3 (UVB radiation from the sun). In order to cover the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA requirement, one would have to consume very large quantities of a certain food. In this case, that would be a whole lot of fatty cold-water fish, preferably from wild-caught sources.
For this reason we have developed the Essentials as the first product from More Nutrition. A product that simply and safely provides you with the important vitamins D3 and K2 as well as the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA.
Of course, this supplement does not replace a balanced and healthy diet, which should be adapted to your needs.
Omega 3 fatty acids
What does EPA and DHA do:
- DHA and EPA for the maintenance of normal heart function
- DHA for the maintenance of normal brain and vision
Among other things, fatty acids serve our body as energy carriers and play an important role in our metabolism. The two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA are essential. We do not manage to consume enough omega-3 in our diet, and as a look at the omega-3 supply in Germany shows, we are not alone in this: while an omega-3 index of 8 to 11% is considered optimal, the average in Germany is just 4 to 6%. This shows that supplementation makes sense. This is also in line with the recommendation of the largest cardiology societies in Europe and the USA, the European Society of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D ...
contributes to the normal absorption/utilization of calcium and phosphorus
contributes to a normal calcium level in the blood
contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth
contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function
contributes to the normal function of the immune system
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. In contrast to the water-soluble vitamins, the fat-soluble vitamins are absorbed together with fats, which is why the absorption of vitamins can be increased by the simultaneous intake of fat through food.
Vitamin D3 occupies a very special position among the many vitamins, as it is covered by the body's own production under optimal conditions. However, as already mentioned, this endogenous production is only possible through exposure to UVB light. This means that your body is only able to produce vitamin D3 itself with the help of UVB radiation from the sun. Vitamin D is then synthesized under the skin with sufficient sunlight, uncovered skin and without sun cream. Although vitamin D can also be obtained from food, it is only found in small quantities in food.
The results of the National Nutrition Survey II (NVS II) show that in our latitudes and due to modern lifestyles, there is insufficient exposure to UVB light and that the body's own production is therefore inadequate for many people. According to NVS II, over 90% of women and over 80% of men did not even reach the minimum intake recommended by the German Nutrition Society (DGE). The DGE recommends an intake of at least 20 µg per day for adults in the absence of endogenous synthesis. An overdose should also be avoided. The maximum daily amount of vitamin D has been set at 100 µg per day.
If not enough vitamin D is synthesized, this vitamin should be taken in addition to counteract a vitamin deficiency.
Vitamin K2 (menaquinone)
Vitamin K ...
contributes to normal blood clotting
contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
Like vitamin D, vitamin K is also fat-soluble, is formed by bacteria and is mainly found in animal foods such as meat or dairy products.
According to the DGE, the daily requirement for adults is between 50 µg and 80 µg, depending on age and gender. There is no data available to set an official upper limit for vitamin K2.
In our Essentials O3-D3-K2 we rely on the microencapsulated vitamin K2-MK7. This is a very stable form of vitamin K2, which also has a very high bioavailability. The compound used can be easily utilized by your body.
FAQ Essentials O3-D3-K2
Why do we recommend 8 capsules when the packaging says 4?
What is the TOTOX value of ESN Omega-3 capsules?
The quality of fish oil increases with lower TOTOX value.
The TOTOX value (TOTal OXidation value), also known as the "freshness value", provides an overall estimate of the degree of oxidation of oils, including fish and algae oils. If an oil is exposed to oxygen, oxidation of the fatty acids takes place - the oil becomes rancid, tastes and smells unpleasant. The European guideline value for the TOTOX value is 30.
We always perform product analysis, which can be found directly on the product page, so customers can see for themselves the purity and freshness. We are always well below the strict IFOS limits, which are even stricter than GOED and WHO. Mostly around/below 10. The value at the last analysis was 8.9.
Is it necessary to take additional D3 with Essentials O3-D3-K2?
With Essentials O3-D3-K2, you generally do not need to take additional vitamin D3. This is because our formulation provides 2,000 IU per day when taken as directed, which is sufficient for most people to maintain normal vitamin D levels.
I have trouble swallowing capsules. What can I do?
Since swallowing capsules is difficult for many, Essentials O3-D3-K2 is now available as a liquid. Capsules like the Mineral Complete or the More Biotic can be easily opened and stirred into your meal or water for easy ingestion.
Where does the fish oil in Essentials O3-D3-K2 come from?
The fish oil in Essentials comes from certified sustainable wild-caught anchovies off the coast of Peru. Our fish oil raw material is pharmaceutical grade (like all other nutritional raw materials). The production is FSSC 2200 certified.
Can I take Essentials if I have a fish allergy?
If you have a fish allergy, you are usually allergic to the protein fractions of fish, including the so-called parvalbumins. However, since Essentials O3-D3-K2 contains only fish oil and no protein, an allergic reaction is not expected. In a small study, it was also shown that fish allergy sufferers tolerate the fish oil without any problems. Isolated cases of allergic reactions are most likely due to impurities and poor quality, which is why it is important to use high quality fish oils, such as those from Essentials O3-D3-K2.
If you suspect you may have an allergic reaction, consult a doctor. You can also test a small amount of the liquid on your skin to see if you have a reaction.
Are there antioxidants in Essentials O3-D3-K2?
An antioxidant is not necessary in Essentials O3-D3-K2 because we use the high quality triglyceride form, which is much more stable and less prone to oxidation than other less expensive forms.
Do Essentials O3-D3-K2 help with lipedema?
Lipedema as a disease must be monitored by a doctor and there is nothing short of surgery that can directly improve the cause. Vitamin D levels have been linked to depression in people who have lipedema, and ensuring adequate vitamin D levels can help reduce the risk of depression and improve mood.
Are the raw materials used in the manufacture of Essentials O3-D3-K2 purified and tested for persistent organic pollutants? Is there a health risk associated with taking Essentials O3-D3-K2?
Only anchovies from fishing areas with no detectable water pollution are used in the extraction of the fish oil.
Anchovies, due to their small size and shorter life span, already naturally have a much lower contaminant load than larger predatory fish, which absorb large amounts of heavy metals and environmental toxins over many years.
The fish oil extracted from the anchovies is additionally purified to the maximum via several filtration processes. It is neutralized, mildly purified, micro-distilled in a vacuum, cold-filtered again and made microbiologically safe with steam before bottling.
The result is highly purified fish oil that does not even contain measurable amounts of heavy metals in the analyses, which are the most widespread and the most persistent to remove. This can be seen in the published analyses.
Why is the ratio of DPA and EPA reversed in children compared to adults?
Children have a higher DHA requirement as DHA is very important for brain and eye development. For adults, EPA is more relevant than DHA due to its effect on the cardiovascular system.
